The NGN Walking Secret: Strength Walks

On the surface walking seems too easy and not a great way to get in shape but in the NGN program this is not the case. Walking is something we don’t do enough of. We drive or take public transportation and use the elevator nstead of the stairs. Advances in technology are great but not at the expense of being so sedentary. The thing to realize is that there are tremendous health
benefits associated with walking:

Here are some benefits:

1. Increased Metabolism: this will lead to burning more calories and allow your body to utilize more nutrients and increase its need for water

2. Circulation of Vital Fluids: Increased circulation leads to increased detoxification and improved immune function

3. Massage and Mobilization of Vital Organs: This helps to keep the organs healthy and at top function

4. Improved mental clarity, emotional and spiritual well being.

One big complaint with walking is that you don’t get a tough workout in a short period of time. It’s important to understand that it’s not about getting a tough workout with walking. That’s not the point with walking. The goal is to obtain its many subtle health benefits as described earlier.

The tough stuff comes by combining strength building exercises like squats, lunges and pushups with walking as you’ll be doing.

Here’s a sample workout: 25 minutes

1. Walk 5 minutes followed by 20-100 squats
2. Walk 5 minutes followed by 20-40 walking lunges
3. Walk 5 minutes followed by 20 push-ups
4. Walk 5 minutes followed by 20 pull-ups

You can change or modify these workouts by:

-Changing the walking times between sets
-Changing the exercises between walking
-Adding more exercises to the program: You can add pull-ups, handstand
pushups, reverse lunges etc…
-Adding more total sets of walking or more sets of exercises

You can also do only a few reps of each exercise to make the workout easier. Once you get started you’ll get a feel for what to do.

I love walking and recommend that many people use it their programs whether beginner or advanced but there is a lot missing in just walking. Strength walking takes care of that.

Now Don’t get me wrong though: You can also use walking as a light workout and skip the strength part. Again with
experience you’ll learn what works best for you.

As Always
